GVSU Flute Studio 2025-2026

The flute studio at Grand Valley State University consists of students pursuing a Bachelor of Music Performance, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Arts in Music, or a music minor.

Interested in studying flute as a music major or minor at GVSU? All prospective high school students are eligible for a free trial lesson with Dr. Thompson! Meet the GVSU Flute Studio!


Vivian Lundskow is a sophomore studying theatre with a music minor. She has been playing the flute for 7 years. In that time, she's been in multiple music ensembles through school and also went to solo and ensemble last year with a flute/oboe duet. Outside of music, they also enjoy performing in theatre productions, knitting, crocheting, and hanging out with friends.

Julia Meyer is a sophomore double major in Biochemistry and Music Performance. She has been playing flute for 11 years and piccolo for about 3 years, and she loves performing with the GVSU Orchestra and Early Music Ensemble! When she isn’t playing flute or studying for a chemistry exam, she loves hiking, listening to music, writing calligraphy, and hanging out with her cat and dog.

Avrey Robb is a first year Music Education major from Olivet, MI. This is her 9th year playing the flute, and has participated in various marching bands and concert bands. When she is not playing her flute you can find Avrey spending time with family and friends.

Brittlyn Keller is a third-year Music Education Major with performance honors.  She has been playing the flute since 6th grade, and was involved with several ensembles at Fruitport Community Schools, as well as groups at Grand Valley, and from the start she has enjoyed performing any chance she can get. In her spare time, Brittlyn enjoys painting and long-boarding. 

Heavyn Musgrave is a second year music education major from Howard City, MI. Throughout high school she has been involved in numerous honors bands, ensembles ranging from choir to symphonic band, and has played trombone in jazz band. Along with this, Heavyn has also been a recipient of the John Philip Sousa award and was nominated as a Scholar Instrumentalist from her senior year state solo & ensemble. When Heavyn is not in the Performing Arts Center, you can find her cooking or hanging out with her cat, Espresso.

Jillaena Weesies is a sophomore music performance major at GVSU and 1st year transfer student from Muskegon Community College, where she performed in the Choral, Wind, and Jazz Ensembles. She has been playing flute for 11 years and piccolo for 6 years. Throughout this time she has performed both flute and piccolo in the Holland Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Shoreline Community Orchestra and is currently a part of the West Michigan Concert Winds. She often performs in pit orchestras for schools across West Michigan and is currently a part of the Wind Symphony at GVSU. When Jillaena isn't playing flute you can find her playing the saxophone in various jazz ensembles, hanging out with friends, going for a hike, or enjoying a good cup of tea.
